A question which can be discussed. A Red Thread in a clubs training of youth
binds a coach to concentrate on the thread and that might be restrictive for
him. Some might say that it is enough just to learn the players to jump high
in the air and discharge a thunder shot against goal after having passed
the ball between the players a couple of times just the sake of appearances.
Others have that opinion that they must learn the lot of different ways to shoot
and play together which are necessary in modern handball.
The Red Thread
could be a help as an aid to the last. In my opinion I think it is a good thing
to have a Red Thread, as it insures that the players learns the many different
things which are a part of the handball game.
The goal must be, that the players in an early stage learn to use the whole court and all positions. Through the basic play they must learn to se the possibilities and run for each other. The collective play must be more important than the individual performance.
Of course the may be problems if a new player starts on a team and that team consists of skilled players. Here it must be up to the coach as soon as possible - eventually with the help from a helping trainer to include the new player in the team.
When a team moves up, the team is skilled in the techniques mentioned and can keep on making the skill better without being experts. All the techniques backwards must be repeated and improved with regard to security and speed.
If the team has the skill and is motivated it may start working on the techniques for the next class, but not on the expense of the techniques, which must be learned in its own for former classes.
Don't restrain 'good' players possibilities to learn techniques outside "The Red Thread", but teach it primary after the normal training lesson.
It is the average skill, which ought to be the determining factor for the training of each team.
The training is based upon teaching the players the most common basics in handball.

Now is the time to work on the more collective play. That does not mean, that the technical part must be forgotten. The players must learn the structure in the different defense systems and learn to communicate in a game situation. In the collective attack game the focus must be put on the pressure play learned from the technical details, the players have learned, for examples feints, piston movements and initial feints.
