TEAMWORK

Teamwork is extremely important in handball. In order that the team can work it must work together against a common goal and is especially validated on 2 points:
1. Which results is the team presenting?
2. How to the individual members on the team thrives?

If you are a member of a team with no results - neither in the sport or socially - and at the same time feels no joy in participating in the team, the idea is not far away that maybe you should find another team or another sport.

There are several signs indicating that a team functions well:
- the individual resource is used
- the team's resources are used well
- many in the team bring up solutions
- valuations and evaluations are made from previous actions and decisions
- a goal is stated as well as the long term goals and short time goals
- all in the team have accepted the goal, which must be reached and worked upon
- plans of actions describing how the goals should be reached are written down
- follow-up of action plans is the responsibility of the team
- the team can take a defeat or step back without damaging effect on the team and team structure
- the team members look upon themselves as team mates and collaborators
- all in the team supports and cheer each other up.
- the team members focus on the team result and on their own results

The signs for a weak team are:
- many different attitudes and statements but none common
- individual interest controls the work of the team
- incompetent in the process of decision
- lack of knowledge about who is doing what
- valuable information are held back

The coach has a special responsibility that the teamwork works and functions well. Even small incidents can tip a long and well planned work and the coach must be very attentive what attitudinal things happens on the team and on the single members of the team. If a member "falls" outside the member must be either inside again or completely out, as just one not-well functional member can destroy a whole team.

Therefore the coach must use a good deal of time in:
- having a good communication with the team
- have a good communication with the single members of the team
- be attentive to problems, dissatisfaction, undermining activity and persuade the cause of these
- maintain accepted goals and plans of action, if the situation demand this
- make problems clear to the team
- inform how the single member can help in relation to the team and in relation to the single members

A good teamwork is the way to collective play, where all members feel responsibility to the final result and feel that all have an important and indispensable part in the team.
