Defense trap - high wing against 5-1
Attacking RB has in this example the possibility to throw the ball to LB.
A pass to CB or to the opposite LW seems risky, as a defender is close to
these players,
However a pass to LB player seems secure, as the defending
R2 is at the goal circle.
When the pass is made, the defending R1 (who
is high on the attacking LW) moves forward to catch the ball.
This action
will be unexpected as the passing RB has evaluated that the defending R2 is
no threat for the pass.
Defending R2 must be ready to cover both the attacking
LB and LW in case the intercept is unsuccessful.
These 2 attackers will
then have an easy opportunity to score.
